What is cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum)?
Cinnamon is the dried bark of a tropical tree that curls up as it dries. It is used in cooking, in infusions and in spice blends. The European Medicines Agency records the traditional use of cinnamon bark for mild digestive discomfort, such as gas or a feeling of bloating.
How to choose it
Ceylon cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum) is milder and finer; cassia is stronger and cheaper. Sticks hold their aroma better than powder.
