What is aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis)?
Aloe vera is a succulent plant whose inner gel is used in cosmetics to moisturise and soothe the skin, especially after sun exposure. It is also sold as juice or a drink.
How to choose it
In gel form, the higher the percentage of aloe, the better (look for it to be the first ingredient). For drinking, check that it is labelled as aloin-free.
